John Radley Memorial Shield

A very successful JR Memorial Shield competition was held on Sunday 9 June and even the weather was kind to us.
It was a competitive afternoon of games played in a very enjoyable atmosphere.
There were 10 teams taking part, Adderbury put in 2 rinks and the other 8 teams were Banbury Borough, Banbury Chestnuts, Bloxham, Byfield, Middle Barton, Woodford, Shipston on Stour and Teddington.
The competition was 5 games of 5 ends against a different opposition on 5 different rinks, the winner being the team with the most shots over the 5 games.
The winning team being Shipston on Stour, who amassed a total of 37 shots, Adderbury 'A' were second with 29 shots and third were Middle Barton with 27.  Bryan's rink was the strongest, holding everyone else up with a mere 16 shots, albeit they did win 2 of their 5 games.
Each rink paid an entry fee of £20, making a total of £200, which was presented to JR's family who will be donating it to a Leukemia Research charity.
The shield was presented to the winning team by some of JR's family and our President Mick.
The afternoon was a great success and all teams have intimated their desire to take part next year.
